3 Months ago almost to the day, We arrived in Southern Portugal having left many friends, a few lifetimes and the mountains of Northern New Mexico behind. Armed with nothing but a few good ideas, a little courage, some kitchen knives and more art than we know what to do with we decided to take a few baby steps towards an idea that has been simmering quietly for many years
Food has always been a passion( probably a neurotic obsession in truth),
but as they say "your greatest weaknesses can become your greatest strengths"
Put simply , we like feeding people beautiful food in a circumstance of pleasure and comfort. After all, the aesthetic life is to live in service to beauty in all its forms.
So on Friday the 17th of February we started the Lemon Tree Supper Club
in the silent hills of Monchique. See the invite below.
Being Indian and a Parsi myself, it was only fitting to start with a (mostly)
Parsi style menu. (The Parsis, the last people of the great Persian Empire who left Iran 1300 years ago and landed on the western shores of India.)
My fantastic partner Tamasin is a Scottish born country girl, and all round creative genius who can do pretty much anything. (I kid you not)
This was the first of what we hope will be many menu's. By all accounts a wonderful night was had by all those who were brave enough to take a chance on something new, especially the lovely couple who drove all the way from the Alentejo for the evening and especially to our new friends who put the word out.
The theme of this supper club is to be truly global, to run every two weeks exploring the cuisines of the world so that every supper club night will be a unique event.
All the food is fresh local produce cooked from scratch with love and care, not a packet or can in sight, and organic where possible.
